Carly Coltrin scored the Beavers’ lone goal. Woodland’s goalkeeper Coco MacDonald recorded eight saves.

With both teams’ regular seasons closing, both of their head coaches are looking forward to their postseason chances.

“I think this game is a good preparation for the game that we’re playing,” Woodland head coach Cameron Cox said after Thursday’s loss. “I feel like if we play with this kind of energy and purpose that we give ourselves a chance.”

Both teams qualified for the postseason. The Beavers finished with a 2A Greater St. Helens League standing of 5-9. They played a loser-out home game on Saturday, Oct. 28 against Centralia High School.

They won 1-0, advancing to play at Columbia River High School on Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The Hockinson Hawks finished with a league standing of 8-6, which pits them against Tumwater High School on Tuesday, Oct. 31, with the loser advancing to a second-chance game. Results were not available before publication.

“We’re heading to Tumwater on Tuesday. So, clearly, that’s a tough, tough match for us,” Hockinson head coach George Moya said. “Unfortunately, that’s what we put ourselves into, into that position towards the end of the season. So we’re just going to have to go out there and give it all. We’ve been known to pull a few upsets here and there.”

Hockinson’s opening postseason game result was unavailable at time of print. If Hockinson won, the Hawks will play the winner of the Aberdeen and Ridgefield match on Thursday, Nov. 2. If the Hawks lost, they will play a loser-out game between the loser of the Aberdeen/Ridgefield match on Thursday, Nov. 2. Both games are on the road.
