Four area basketball teams head to state

Battle Ground boys 

Although getting beat for the third time this season by Union High School on Friday, Feb. 22 at Mark Morris High School in the 4A regional round, 56-37, the Tigers are still headed to the Tacoma Dome this week for the state championship. 

Battle Ground, who are 4-4 in league and 18-9 overall, will start their bid for some hardware against Kentridge High School, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in a loser out game. 

Prairie boys 

The Falcons (8-2 in league, 17-9 overall) also dropped their 3A regional matchup on Feb. 22, 71-52 against Mt. Spokane High School at University High School in Spokane, but are still headed to the dome. Prairie will play Ingraham High School at 5:30 p.m., Feb. 27 in a loser out game.

The Falcons (10-0 in league, 22-2 overall) racked up another win in the regional round after taking third at the 3A district tournament. They beat Arlington High School 55-46 Feb. 23 at Battle Ground High School to secure a bye in the first round of the state championship. They are slated to play at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 28 against a yet-to-be-determined opponent at the Tacoma Dome. 

La Center boys 

The Wildcats (9-1 in league, 19-2 overall) continue their tear.

Fresh off winning the 1A district championship, La Center knocked off Deer Park 63-46 in the regional round on Feb. 23 at Battle Ground High School, securing a first round bye in the state championship.

La Center will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent at 9 p.m., Feb. 28 at the Yakima SunDome.
