Hangover Scrambles set in Washougal

Posted

The Jones Creek Trail Riders Association (JCTRA) will hold the Hangover Scrambles dirt bike and ATV races on Thu., Jan. 1, at the Washougal MXP track.

Entrants will race in one of five one-hour races throughout the day, depending on what class they are in. The Scrambles will be held regardless of weather.

The event is JCTRA’s primary fundraiser with revenue helping finance the organization’s trail building and maintenance efforts throughout the year.

“This will be a rough year for us as the DNR is out of money for building trails until at least July and even that is grant dependent,” JCTRA President Mike Ames wrote in an email. “Money will be tight this year and we need all the help we can get.”

He said between 250 and 400 riders are anticipated to compete with another 200 to 400 people watching. Riders in past years have come from the Pacific Northwest, California, Nevada and Canada, Ames said.

“For 2014 we built an EnduroX obstacle station that was very popular with the expert class riders and this year we’ve brought it back even bigger and better than before,” Ames said. “The EnduroX section is out in the middle of a big field with road access so people can drive out there and watch. It is becoming a big spectator show.”
