BG boys top Skyview

Nate Moring scored 13 of his game-high 15 points in the first half to lead Battle Ground to 53-46 win at Skyview in a Class 4A Greater St. Helens League boys basketball game played Feb. 6 at Skyview High School.

The victory evened Battle Ground’s GSHL record at 5-5 heading into the final two games of the league season. This week, the Tigers will finish the regular season with home games against Mountain View (Tuesday) and Evergreen (Thursday).

In addition to Moring’s 15 points, Battle Ground got a double-double from standout center Devin Johnson, who finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Skyview.

Senior Andrej Besara added nine points for Battle Ground and Keaton Hoots added eight for the Tigers, who improved their season record to 9-9 with the win.

Class 3A

Prairie clinched a berth in the postseason with a 65-34 win at Fort Vancouver in the Falcons’ final game of the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League season.

Point guard Michael Stockbridge and forward Greg Bernash each scored 18 points to lead Prairie to the win over Fort Vancouver. The Falcons finished GSHL play with a 2-4 record and the regular season with an 8-12 mark.

Prairie will open the 3A bi-district tournament with a game at Kennedy Catholic on Thu., Feb. 12 at 7 p.m.

Class 2A



Woodland and Hockinson will meet at Woodland in the final game of the Class 2A Greater St. Helens League season. Both teams have clinched a berth in the postseason.

Woodland head into the game tied for second in league play with Washougal at 7-4. Hockinson is a game back with a 6-5 record in GSHL play.

If Woodland defeats Hockinson and Ridgefield upsets Washougal, the Beavers would finish second, Washougal would be third and Hockinson fourth. However, if the Hawks defeat the Beavers or if Washougal beats Ridgefield, a tiebreaker will be needed to finish determining the seeding into the playoffs.

Hockinson had six players score in double figures in a 78-49 win over Hudson’s Bay on Feb. 6. The Hawks were led by Ry Paulsen’s 15 points.

Woodland opened up a 21-point lead through three quarters and then coasted to a 54-36 win over R.A Long on Feb. 6. The Beavers were led by Tanner Sixberry’s 12 points.

Class 1A

La Center finished the Trico League season strong with a 65-46 win at Kalama. The Wildcats finished second in the 1A league with a 10-2 record (12-7 overall). Wyatt Aguirre had 18 points and Will Rice added 17 in the win over Kalama.

La Center will open the postseason by hosting Tenino in a 7 p.m. game Thu., Feb. 12.
