Last Tuesday around 1:45 p.m., Delane Turcott, 33, Vancouver, decided to break into a Honda Accord in broad daylight in the parking lot of the Winco on NE 119th St. in Brush Prairie, according to the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office Dep. Robertson was able to find the car soon after and tried to stop it, but Turcott had other plans. He drove east on NE 119th St. from NE 117th Ave. and turned south on NE 124th Ave., at which point Dep. Robertson stopped pursuing.

Turcott kept a high rate of speed and blew through a red light at NE 124th Ave. and NE 99th St. while trying to turn east, then smashed into a west bound Honda Civic.

Turcott climbed out of the car and ran, but was chased down and detained by citizens who saw the crash. They held him at bay until deputies showed up.

The Civic driver, a 48-year-old, was taken by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Turcott has since been booked in the Clark County Jail on charges of felony hit and run, and a felony department of corrections warrant. The sheriff's office said further criminal charges are planned.
