Information sought on historic La Center building

Help from the public is sought as information is compiled about a historic clinic building that now serves as the La Center Library.

Information is needed to complete an application to have the building listed on the Clark County Historic Register.

Tom Wooldridge said the building was constructed about 1906 as a clinic and drug store. The 2-and-one-half-story building also served as the residence of Dr. Zener.

Sometime after Dr. Zener departed for California, said Wooldridge, the clinic building was used as a tuberculosis rest home.

Wooldridge said little else is known about the history of the building, such as dates it was used and closed, other uses the building may have served, any renovations that took place over the years, or other doctors or people who occupied the building.

The building was moved in 2004 to become a library for the La Center community.

Anyone with records, photographs, old newspaper articles or other documents concerning the building, or anyone with a personal recollection about the building, is urged to call Wooldridge, (360) 263-4816.
