With recent reports of the housing market potentially back on the upswing, local home designers and construction companies are looking to show what can be done to revitalize existing spaces with the 2013 Remodeled Homes Tour.

Sponsored by the Building Industry Association of Clark County (BIA), the tour takes place Sat., and Sun., June 8-9, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at eight locations across Clark County.

The BIA’s Remodelers Council chooses the finest examples of new remodeling projects in the Southwest Washington area, allowing aspiring home buyers and renovators to get ideas and see first-hand examples from area professionals.

This year’s eight homes include examples of work from:

• Fazzolari Custom Homes & Renovations, 13211 NW 33rd Ave, Vancouver – Their current Felida “work in progress,” includes a three-story addition and almost 750 feet of new living space along with a renovation of the existing kitchen, family and backyard.

Utilizing space that had been a two-story great room, the home now includes an upper-floor bathroom and bonus room that are loaded with windows to take advantage of views of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood, as well as the Salmon Creek watershed.

The main floor great room has been remodeled and now includes six French doors that open to a large covered concrete deck with a built-in fire pit and retaining walls.

• Designers Northwest Inc. 11608 NE 30th Ct., Vancouver – For most families, the kitchen is the heart of the house, used as a place to not only prepare and serve food, but also for the kids to do homework, and be a general gathering area.

Major elements of their remodel included removing the existing cabinets and dropped ceiling in favor of new custom glazed and stained cabinets with raised door panels and drawers. By removing the dropped ceiling, additional lighted display cabinets were able to be installed.

Overall kitchen space was improved by opening up a wall separating the kitchen and dining room, and all new appliances were installed along with a 6-foot by 8-foot pantry.

The remodel extended out of the kitchen as well with an updated dining room and entry staircase.

• Jack Harroun Construction, 1010 W. 16th St., Vancouver – Sometimes a remodel can save a home and Jack Harroun Construction took on bringing a late 1800s home back from decades of neglect and converting it into a four-plex. The complete 1,500-square-foot restoration began with stripping the building down to the studs to reveal the original layout, then going from there.

The home now features three bedrooms, two baths, a custom kitchen, restored floors, breakfast nook, sun porch and more, and will be presented for sale.

• Spacemaster Construction, 9403 Oak View Dr., Vancouver – When the owners of their project moved in, they wanted to update it while keeping the essence of the home intact.

To that end, the goal was to bring in the luxuries of 2013 while also having a retro feel, so the home was gutted back to the studs, moving existing walls, ceilings and windows.

New Sub Zero and Wolf appliances were installed and are operated by a state-of-the-art whole home system, allowing the owners to operate them with their smartphones. The kitchen and bathrooms were also updated following a similar trend.

• L.E. Burgess Remodeling & Renovations, 22702 NE 123rd Circle, Brush Prairie – The Battle Ground company took on the daunting task of a full remodel, but also a 1,280-square-foot addition on top of their Brush Prairie project.

The exterior siding and brick work were matched to existing finishes to make the addition seem as though it had always been a part of the house. The interior received a tile floor, expanded kitchen and family living room space, while the unused family room became the dining room.

The kitchen and master bedroom both received a full facelift and were expanded to incorporate modern amenities and new natural walnut cabinetry and granite countertops.

• Walls too Windows, Interior Design, 15614 NE 15th Circle, Vancouver – For this project, Wall too Windows was faced with a unique challenge, how to incorporate the homeowner’s work in transforming her Asian-inspired backyard sancutary into a house in need of a new look.

The new kitchen boasts bamboo cabinets and red dragon granite, while the oak floors were stripped and restained. Two rooms were converted into a full powder bath with an ADA-compliant walk-in shower and a new deck just off the master bedroom leads into the backyard for which the remodel was inspired.

• Scherer Enterprises, 2713 SE Balboa Dr., Vancouver – Scherer’s Vancouver project was more about better adapting to the homeowner’s active lifestyle and the remodel was done in phases as to not interrupt that lifestyle.

The bathrooms were tackled first with a low-threshold shower pan installed and a custom-made 36-inch high vanity with granite slab countertops and a new sink. The master bathroom shower stall was also redone to minimize wasted space by more than half.

The kitchen was the last section to get a major overhaul with old laminate countertops and wood edging removed in favor of tropical brown granite slab extending out into the bay windows along with all new appliances and flooring.

• D.K. LeSieur Construction, 4478 Y St., Washougal – A full home remodel with a concept of open space in the kitchen and dining rooms, while keeping a sense of intimacy in the parlor, living rooms and bedrooms. The downstairs third floor was converted to additional living space with bedrooms, a family room and bathroom.

Tickets for the tour are $10 each, cash only, and the tour can start at any of the eight destinations. Children ages 12 and under will be admitted for free. No food and drink, smoking, photography and pets will be allowed in the homes on the tour.
