Local students qualify for speech, debate national tourney

Battle Ground High School juniors Carter Stafford and Elizabeth McAleer will travel to the national speech and debate tournament after finishing at a qualifying tournament in Oregon, according to a Battle Ground Public Schools newsletter.

The national tournament will take place June 16 through June 21 in Des Moines, Iowa.



Stafford and McAleer finished first in Duo Interpretation at the North Oregon National Qualifying Tournament, hosted by Sprague High School in Salem, Oregon.

Donations to fund travel expenses will be accepted at Battle Ground High School’s ASB office, the newsletter stated.
