Letter to the Editor: Traffic signal at Onsdorff and Highway 503 works just fine

Posted

Editor,

Just a week ago I received a survey from the Battle Ground administration asking opinions on a roundabout for the Highway 503 and Onsdorff intersection. My answer to that was a solid NO, and the reason is this: Highway 503 at that junction is a very busy, fast roadway, and for someone coming into the roundabout from Onsdorff trying to get across to the other side, they would be in real danger. Roundabouts are OK on less-traveled two lane roads but not on a busy highway. Would you recommend having one on Northwest 199 Avenue and 503? It’s a little different but not by a lot. I travel on Onsdorff and cross Highway 503 almost every day and sometimes several times a day. I find the traffic signal there works quite well and am willing to wait an extra minute for the light to change. Over the many years I have lived in the same spot and traveled this route, I have yet to see a traffic accident there, although there have been some, as they are everywhere. I don’t want to be having to merge with double dump trucks and a solid line of traffic going north and south. Please send this proposal to the trash pile of history and forget about it.
