Letter to the Editor: Non-voters should vote yes for Ridgefield schools

Posted

Editor,

I am writing to encourage non-voters to vote yes for the upcoming school bond propositions in Ridgefield. Ridgefield bonds typically receive yes votes from 59% of voters, but Washington requires 60% (plus one vote) to pass a bond — a dumb requirement but a requirement, nonetheless. This is why it is so vital for non-voters to participate!

Previous bonds have failed by just a few dozen votes. Passing those previous bonds would have already built a much-needed new school. Passing those previous bonds would have already rebuilt the metals shop at the high school. Passing those previous bonds would have saved taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.

We just need a few non-voters to participate.

Voting is easy. The ballot will be mailed to you on/about April 5. Fill in the bubbles, sign and date the envelope, drop the envelope back in the mailbox. The reply envelope is postage paid. Easy!

Please also note there are two propositions, Proposition 10 and Proposition 11. I am encouraging you to vote yes for both.

If you need more details, please ignore your grouchy uncle. He hates puppies and ice cream. Clear and transparent explanations of the propositions are available on the school district’s website, including the costs associated with each project, public oversight and how your grouchy uncle can find out if he is exempt from paying for the bond.

Please vote yes on Proposition 10 and Proposition 11.
