La Center Elementary School fifth-grade student Dominic D’Emilio took first place in his grade division during the Math is Cool state competition in Moses Lake.

Fifth grader Eli Johnson garnered eighth place in the same division and La Center’s fifth-grade team finished fourth overall. The fifth-grade team consisted of D’Emilio, Johnson, Samantha Coyle and Conner Sudmeier.

La Center fourth-grade students Meagan Stabell and Thomas Boyle competed but did not place.

“All six students had a blast and did well,” Laurie Kansanback, assistant to the superintendent, wrote in an email to The Reflector. “The La Center School District wishes to congratulate all of our ‘Math is Cool’ students as well as their coach, La Center Elementary teacher Mr. Peter Poppert. We are very proud of all of you!”
