Friday Night Lights: Woodland decimates Columbia River

Posted

The Woodland High School football team turned the tide against Columbia River Friday and sailed to a 40-7 victory.

The Beavers sunk their teeth into the Chieftains on the second play from scrimmage, when Kenyon Guy knocked the ball loose and Bryce Graham dove on top of it to give Woodland possession in scoring range.

After Wyatt Wooden caught a pass on fourth down to give the Beavers a fresh set of downs, Tyler Flanagan smashed through the defenders and slid across the goal line for a 13-yard touchdown.

Woodland got the ball back after giving it away on an interception, but then lost 17 yards on a high snap. No problem for Flanagan. On the next play, he fired a 67-yard touchdown pass to Christian Yager.

The Beavers then went for an on-side kick and Yager recovered it to give them another possession. Wyatt Wooden snagged an 18-yard touchdown pass to give Woodland a 20-0 lead at the start of the second quarter.

Flanagan rushed for two more touchdowns in the game and Reid Hope added an 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Ryan Cooney caught a 2-point conversion pass to make it 40-0 Beavers and kick start the running clock.

Columbia River prevented a shutout by scoring a touchdown in the last three minutes of the game.

Flanagan had another big game for Woodland with 192 passing yards, 138 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

With this win against the Chieftains, the Beavers (7-1) earned the No. 2 playoff seed from the 2A Greater St. Helens League.
