An area of property in the Battle Ground Village area is currently awaiting site plan approval from the city of Battle Ground and, if approval is granted, will become the new site for The Crossing, an active adult community.

Sam Crummett, planning supervisor for the city of Battle Ground, said a total of 70 units are proposed at this time, with the majority of them being reserved for seniors. He said the property has been graded and is awaiting site plan approval from the city.

Once the plans have been approved, Crummett said work on the project could begin at any time, although he said projects like these can be more difficult to build in the rainy season. He said most of the work will likely begin in the spring of 2015. The developer for this project is Dennis Pavlina.

According to the project narrative submitted to the city, The Crossing is only one phase of a nine-phase development project. For this particular phase and parcel, the plan is to develop 70 apartment units as well as a community room within the structure. The apartment units will consist of Studio, one and two bedroom style apartments with elevator service to all floors.

The full nine-phase project is located within the Battle Ground Village Mixed-Use Project that consisted of nine lots and a total of 21.1. acres. The project has approval to construct a mix of commercial, retail and residential properties.

According to the narrative, the design concept utilizes ideas and concepts that create a cohesive, pedestrian-friendly community. Streetscapes and discriminately sized and distributed parking areas will encourage pedestrian utilization of walkways and public spaces, reducing local reliance on automotive use of the village.
