‘Professional’ Reflector?: Editorial and news mix inconsistent in April 27 issue

Posted

Editor,

It makes one wonder about the editorial/news “professional” capabilities of The Reflector. An excellent example of inconsistency is evident on the front page of the April 27 issue.

One of the lead stories is the anti-Environmental Protection Agency screed of U.S. Rep Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, castigating the EPA.

And immediately above is a story “Tourism is big business in Clark County.”

Quoting Andrea McNamara Doyle, executive director of the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Coalition, “Outdoor recreation is a major economic engine in our state. In Clark County alone, it is responsible for over $1.2 billion in annual spending and supports over 9,200 jobs.”

Folks, that is $1.2 billion and 9,200 jobs.

Beautler and the Port of Vancouver cannot see beyond a few dollars of immediate profits and are willing to risk $1.2 billion and 9,200 jobs in Clark County on an annual ongoing basis.

Somebody needs to seriously analyze their priorities.
