Favorite teacher should be re-elected to BG School Board

Posted

Doesn’t everyone have a favorite teacher? I did. She taught me freshmen English in college. One day she called me into her office and said,” You have writing talent, but you are too lazy to spell correctly. From now on if I see one misspelled word you will get an F on that essay.” That teacher took time to encourage me and helped me realize my potential. I know how to spell and write because she cared.

This kind of caring, encouraging teacher we all love is Mavis Nickels, now running for re-election to the Board of Directors in the Battle Ground School District. One of her former students wrote a letter on Facebook stating how Mrs. Nickels tutored her after school on Pre-Calculus.

Mavis Nickels cares about students and has a wealth of day-to-day experience in teaching. I know Mavis Nickels as The American Association of University , Hudson’s Bay, co-president. I have seen first-hand her abilities of problem-solving, creative thinking and leadership. Battle Ground, I hope you realize the gem you have on your School Board.

Re-elect Mavis Nickels in the Primary Election on Aug. 4.
