In order to ensure our salmon runs thrive again, we need to increase hatchery production. Thankfully, Jaime Herrera Beutler secured funding to provide a major increase in our hatcheries from her seat on the budget-setting Appropriations Committee in Congress. These efforts have wide support in the fishing community: for those fathers and sons who enjoy the fishing tradition, for those who fish for sustenance, for feeding troubled Puget Sound Southern Resident Orca populations, and for anyone who has ever cast a line — Jaime’s efforts can be appreciated by all of us.
