Fireworks a hot topic

Posted

In our April 11 publication, I wrote about the survey the city of Battle Ground is conducting, and how I enjoy fireworks. We’ve been getting letters to the editor addressing the topic,  which we are of course happy to receive. However, it’s been brought to my attention that there are a few facts that I felt were obvious and I didn’t address in my editorial so here they are:

— Fireworks should not be shot off a week before and a week after the Fourth of July. There must be control, rules, respect, and consequences when they are not being used in the right times or days.

— Children should not be playing with fireworks. Safety measures should be used by all, at all times.

— Clean up your mess when you’re done.

— Have respect for your neighbors.

The good news is that I accomplished my goal in getting the community motivated to share their views on fireworks which I’ve found enlightening. The ironic part is, last year’s mayor received very few complaints from Battle Ground citizens and the city council is now offering a survey. For all of the lovers and haters of fireworks, now is your time to have your voice heard. Take the survey — you have until this Friday.
