Stop, look, listen

Posted

It seems that in today’s world, every time you turn on the television, and listen to the news, there is a constant headline.

The topic is bullying. What has happened to this world?

When I was young, there was always the usual teasing, and the occasional bullying, but it was stopped, right then and right there. It wasn’t allowed to continue. In my world, “no” meant “no”, and that was the end of it.

Now it has become so common place and so many are afraid to step in. They fear for their own safety, and who would blame them.

Once upon a time, a child looked forward to going to school, making new friends, working hard, but also having fun.

I am horrified that young people are taking their own lives because they are different in some way.

I am blessed with grandchildren, many of them, and two have difficulties--one with autism, one with epilepsy. Their only wish is to be normal and have friends, and be happy. Their happiness is ruined because of children who have not been taught it is okay to be different.

It is going to take everyone, from the young to the old, to turn things around.

If we are ever to go back to a happy, disciplined world, it will take all of us working together to make it happen.

The bottom line here is, when you see or hear of a person being bullied, then stop, look and listen. Do what you have to do and need to do, just do it.

Or if you are fearful, then go for help, but don’t just stand there with your hands in your pockets. Do something, do anything, but don’t turn your back or walk away.

If you don’t do anything, the world will never change. And it is already a sad, sad world we live in. Please do your part to help.
