Children’s voices grow stronger

Posted

Large numbers of youth have taken up the banner of protest against the prevalence and easy access to all manner of guns in our country.  Disgusted with the failure of adults in Congress to act to protect them and others, they speak out, they march.  Congress passed lip service legislation with few real teeth, and once more, failed to address the root of the problem, the ready availability and obsession with guns in this country.  And the children’s voices grow stronger.

These youth renew my hope that this country could right itself once more.  Their action helps inspire this weary adult to continue to work for good.  The Democrats win in Pennsylvania gives us hope, as do strong candidates in our district running against an unresponsive Federal Representative.  But these youth are our future.

I have read that millennials have no respect for institutions, and who can blame them?  These institutions have failed them over and over.  Once major corporations cared about making a good product, whereas today the greater goal is return to stockholders.  Once Congress worked for the common good, and served the people, but, as the gun issue shows us, today they work for special interests and their campaign contributions.  And schools once nurtured and educated, but today our children have practice drills on what to do when a shooter enters their school.

So I say, go for it kids.  I stand with you.
