Reclaimed Nature turns wood into something new

Posted

Reclaimed Nature is a small business in Battle Ground that specializes in taking salvaged wood and turning it into something new.

Owner Zak Gross has only been in a business for about a year, but the 37-year-old has been working with wood for about 12 years.

Zak, owner and operator of Reclaimed Nature along with his wife Leisha, makes a variety of products for the lawn and garden, including cedar planters, birdhouses and some outdoor furniture. In addition, Leisha said they also make travel coffee mugs out of wood, cutting boards and lamps. They have also completed many other projects on request, according to Leisha, and can do custom work and custom sizing as well.

“I would say about 75 percent of materials we use are recycled or reclaimed,” Leisha said. “As far as trends, we make cedar planters that have corrugated metal. They seem to be a good seller for us.”

Leisha, 35, said all of Reclaimed Nature’s woodworking is done at their home in Battle Ground, and everything they sell is handmade by Zak. Zak and Leisha also have four children who help out with the business as much as possible – Baylie, 17, Ashtyn, 14, Cooper, 8, and Kelsey, 6.

“We try to get the kids involved as much as possible,” Leisha said.

So far, Leisha said they have just been selling the lawn and garden items at plant and garden fairs, but have also sold some orders to stores in the past as well. Old Town Battle Grounds in Old Town Battle Ground bought several of the wood travel coffee mugs.

Last year, Zak and Leisha had their products for sale at the Annual Camas Plant & Garden Fair and will be there again for this year’s event. This year’s Camas Plant & Garden Fair is set for Sat., May 9, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., held in downtown Camas. The event includes a wide selection of plants, trees, garden art and supplies, children’s activities, live music, fresh food and all of the shops and restaurants of downtown Camas.
