The Rotary Club of Woodland is bringing the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus to Horseshoe Lake Park on Memorial Day. The event, which is a first for the Rotary Club, will feature unicyclists, sword balancing and much more.

The C&M circus started operations in 1985 and hails from Hugo, Oklahoma, or, “Circus City USA.” The circus features a big top tent with 700 seats for guests, snacks and a plethora of other fun activities. Per the circus website, credit cards are only accepted at the box office, so bring cash if you plan to participate in activities other than the show. According to the circus website, pre-show tours are available at 9:30 a.m. for those concerned about the state and care of the circus animals. You do not need a ticket to go on the pre-show tour.

“The exciting thing is bringing something fun to the community,” Suzy Oubre-Loyd said about the event, later adding that the best part of the event is the direct benefit it has to the Woodland Rotary Club.

According to Oubre-Loyd, the Rotary Club provides three scholarships in the area as well as also hosting a Christmas giving event in the area and fundraisers like the circus event help the Rotary Club provide these events.

“If (the circus) is successful we will continue doing it in the future,” Oubre-Loyd said. “We look forward to bringing some fun and education (to the community).”
