Heisson Store in Battle Ground has new owners with big ideas

The Heisson Store in Battle Ground may be under new ownership, but they are still offering the feeling of the old general store down the road.

Clark County residents Gionni and Eric Johnson purchased the store on Halloween after former owners Chris and Tina Lusk decided to sell the long-time business that has been near Battle Ground since 1907. The general store is located near the Heisen House Vineyards, Battle Ground Lake, Moulton Falls and Sunset Falls.

The Johnson’s daughter, Jenell Anderson, will also manage the shop with her mother. According to Anderson, the family decided to purchase the business because Eric was starting to think about retirement.

“He started thinking about retirement and ways to still have some source of income,” said Anderson. “They decided to purchase the store and now me and my mom run it.”

Gionni Johnson said that this was a perfect way for she and her daughter to do something as a team.

Anderson said the family plans to keep the store like it has been in the past except to expand on certain areas of products they sell.

“We are expanding our frozen food section and our beer selection,” said Anderson. “We also hope to have a full service deli section here soon.”

Along with the plans for a new deli, the family is also carrying local food products as well as gifts in the store. Garlic Gourmet, based out of Ariel, is a featured product with gift sets at Heisson Store. They also carry the brand Gut Bustin Games, based out of Yacolt, that make games such as Redneck Life, Redneck Life Expansion, Oh Gnome You Don’t!, Trailer Park Wars and Farming Game Kids.

“We plan on staying the same general store that has always been here,” said Anderson. “We just want to expand our selection to keep customers coming in.”

Anderson said the store will also carry Christmas gift items such as candles, gift baskets, baby items, jewelry, quilted items and more with items changing throughout the seasons.

The Heisson Store is located at 17510 NE 279th St., Battle Ground. Store hours are Mon.-Sat., 8 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sun., 9 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information on the store, call (360) 687-2008.
