Miss Teen La Center to be crowned Sat., July 27

The 2013 Miss Teen La Center Pageant will be held Sat., July 27 at the Sternwheeler Park Amphitheater in La Center.

This year’s event marks the 11th anniversary of the Miss Teen La Center competition. The 2013 court will represent La Center in the Starlight Parade and other area parades and festivals, including La Center’s Our Days Celebration.

The winner of the pageant receives $1,000.

This year’s event is sponsored by the City of La Center, the New Phoenix and Last Frontier casinos, the La Center Marketplace and the Chips & Palace Casino (the Michels Corporation).

The competition is open to La Center students or residents ages 13-18. Contestants may also qualify because of affiliation with La Center due to employment.

The 2013 Court will include 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th runners up and a Queen.

Here’s a look at the 10 contestants who will compete at the 2013 Miss Teen La Center Scholarship Pageant:

• Sara Paul – The 15-year-old Paul is the daughter of Tony & Aaron Paul of La Center.  She will be a sophomore at LaCenter High School in the fall and plans to study veterinary medicine.



• Carmella DeSean – DeSean, 17, and is the daughter of Carla & Chris DeSean of La Center. She will be a junior at La Center High School this fall and plans to be a dental hygienist.

• Taylar Moon – Moon, 16, is the daughter of Heidi & Michael Moon of La Center. She will be a junior at La Center High School in the fall and plans to be an optometrist.

• Kimmy Carter – The 18-year-old Carter is the daughter of Connie Carroll and Dale and Cindy Carter of La Center. She just graduated from La Center High School and will start Clark College in the fall to begin her studies in Criminal Psychology.

• Kyrie Klinski – Klinski, 16, is the daughter of Danelle & Jeremy Klinski of La Center. She will be a junior at La Center High School in the fall and hopes to be a dental hygienist.

• Amethyst Ackerman – The 15-year-old Ackerman is the daughter of Laura & Jim Ackerman of Battle Ground.  She is home-schooled and will be a freshman in the fall. She and her family are very involved in the International Exchange Student program.

• Shelby Ray – Ray, 15, is the daughter of Kim & Robert Ray of Woodland. She will be a sophomore at La Center High School in 2013-14 and hopes to be a dental hygienist.

• Madison Johnson – Johnson is 16 years old and is the daughter of Jody & Mark Johnson of La Center.  She will be a junior at La Center High School in the fall and plans to study Anthropology and Primatology. Johnson is a current member of the 2012 MTLC Court.

• Markayla Richmond – Richmond, 15, is the daughter of Michelle & Jeff Richmond of La Center. She will be a junior at La Center High School in the fall and plans to study Veterinary Medicine.

• Hailey Jones – The 17-year-old Jones is the daughter of Carie & Eric Johnson of La Center.  She will be a senior at La Center High School in the fall and plans to pursue a career in the music industry. Jones is a current member of the 2012 MTLC Court.
