Andy Schoonover, the current principal at Summit View High School in Battle Ground, will take over as principle of Hockinson High School this summer, pending approval from the board of directors.

Before taking the lead at Summit View, Schoonover rose through the ranks in the Battle Ground school district, where he started as a social studies teacher at Lewisville Middle School and then Battle Ground High School.

He had stops as assistant principal at two middle schools, Pleasant Valley Middle School and Chief Umtuch Middle School, before a stint as assistant principal and athletic director at both  Battle Ground and Prairie high schools, respectively.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Andy to our school district,” said Superintendent Sandra Yager in the announcement. “He is excited to join our team, and I know he will be a wonderful addition.”

Schoonover takes over for Colleen Anders who has been named director of Teaching and Learning for the Hockinson School District. Anders has spent the last 26 years as a teacher or principal in the district.

“(Anders) will support all areas of curriculum adoption, assessment, and federal- and state-funded programs,” the district said in the announcement. Some of those responsibilities were previously held by Assistant Superintendent Slade McSheehy, who this summer will leave Hockinson to become superintendent of Vashon Island School District in Vashon, Washington in the Puget Sound.
