Prairie drops state tourney opener

Cold shooting plagued Prairie’s shooters in their Class 3A state girls basketball tournament opener at the Tacoma Dome and the Falcons were defeated by Bellevue 51-39 Thursday.

Prairie will meet West Seattle at 10:30 a.m. Friday in a loser out game in the consolation portion of the eight-team bracket.

Lindsay Asplund and Cherita Daugherty each scored 15 points to lead the Falcons in their opener. Asplund made five of her 12 shots from the field, but was just 1-for-6 from 3-point range. The senior guard also had nine rebounds in the game.



Daugherty was 4-for-10 from the field (1-for-3 from 3-point range) and 4-for-5 at the free throw line. The junior guard had a team-high 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Sophomore guard Jozie Tangeman chipped in seven points for Prairie.

As a team, the Falcons made just three of their 24 attempts from behind the 3-point line.
