Battle Ground woman thanks students for act of kindness

Roselee Irvine, 76, was about to cross the street at the corner of Main Street and Parkway Avenue in Battle Ground when her motorized scooter broke down. She was off the sidewalk, but not quite in a traffic lane when it happened.

Drivers were slowing down as they passed her, but no one was stopping until Cole Simons, a senior baseball player at Battle Ground High School, spotted her.

Simons quickly pulled over and tried to get the scooter started after helping her back up to the sidewalk.

They were unable get to the scooter up and running again, so Simons and Irvine began pushing it back to her home and Simon called a friend on the baseball team to come help.

Minutes later, the whole baseball team showed up to lend a hand. The students had Roselee sit back down in her scooter and about five of them pushed her back to her home in the vicinity of Tiger Bowl.

“I just felt like it was the right thing to do,” Simons said of why he decided to stop and help.

“I’m extremely grateful for what they did,” Roselee said when she stopped by The Reflector’s  office to share her story. “Their kindness needs to be acknowledged.”
