The Ridgefield School District (RSD) Board of Directors recognized one staff member and six students of the month during their regular meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 10.

Susan Arndt has served in the Ridgefield District for many years. Now at View Ridge Middle School, a news release states how Arndt does not hesitate to do what staff, parents or administrators ask of her. Parents frequently commend her ability to go the extra mile and stay the extra hour to meet the needs of parents and students in the RSD. Arndt communicates with coaches, parents and staff to coordinate schedules and work through key information for staffing sports games and practices.

The news release said Arndt “is on the front lines handling parent concerns regarding discipline and athletics, sometimes when they are in a frustrated state” while also maintaining a calm and professional presence. Along with this, Arndt makes the personal choice to rise above her own circumstances and demonstrate ownership. Employee of the month Arndt also supervises the View Ridge Middle School detention room and offers help to students when they are the most reluctant.

The board selected Phoenix Ramsey as the Student of the Month for the Ridgefield Early Learning Center. Phoenix’s life skills in perseverance and flexibility in the pre-kindergarten class and his kindness and respect toward his friends and teachers leads to others in his class feeling safe around him.

Fourth-grader Chase Divine was selected as the Student of the Month for South Ridge Elementary. The release stated Chase is always willing to try something new, even if it’s scary. Chase is dedicated to always giving it his best shot and “sets and inspiring example in the classroom.”

Union Ridge Elementary’s Kherington Hagen was selected as Student of the Month for the school. Kherington, a third grade student, “embodies the Ridgefield School District’s philosophy of ‘unlimited possibilities.’” The release mentioned that Kherington transformed her approach to learning from “lackadaisical” to “responsible and dedicated.” Kherington did this by confronting her weaknesses and accepting all feedback. Her creative mind and perseverance uplifts and inspires those around her.

Jamison Barnette, a fifth-grader, was selected for Student of the Month at Sunset Ridge Elementary School. Jamison’s sense of humor and participation in lessons leads him to be inquisitive and engaged. While being open to new things, Jamison is also helpful and empathetic to those around him.

Eighth-grader Tyler Crouch was selected for View Ridge Middle School. Tyler values learning and gives his best every single day. He will ask questions until he understands all the material and is a very STEM minded student. The release states that he “works diligently to solve problems, cooperates collaboratively with his peers and is always thinking of what he can do to make his projects the best they can be.”

Charlie Fisher, a sophomore, was selected as Ridgefield High School’s Student of the Month. “Every once in a while, you meet a person who more than impresses you in terms of presence, voice, advocacy for others and stance for social justice,” the release said. “Sophomore Charlie Fisher is such a person, and it is with great pleasure that Ridgefield High School has selected her as its December Student of the Month.”

Charlie is a founding member of Ridgefield High School’s Unite Ridgefield Club as well as being a member of the district’s Equity and Engagement Committee. She has also started a “Sister Circle” to empower girls at Ridgefield High School. Charlie serves on the Clark County Youth Commission working to create policies that will impact the youth in Clark County. Teachers at the school describe her as “an exceptional leader, dedicated and determined student, an extremely hard worker committed to learning and growing and an agent of change.” Charlie maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average while taking advanced classes in science, social studies and world languages. She aspires to be a teacher one day.
