Advanced jazz band at Battle Ground High School takes home first at Skyview Jazz Festival

The Battle Ground High School advanced jazz band took home first place at the Skyview Jazz Festival on Saturday, Dec. 7.

The annual festival features big band combinations from high schools and middle schools around the county. This year’s festival theme was “A Storm of Cool Jazz” and featured guest artists from the River City Riot Brass Band. 

Along with the Battle Ground High School Band, one of Prairie High School’s jazz bands placed third in the advanced division and Chief Umtuch’s jazz band placed second in the middle school division. 



Top soloists were also presented at the awards ceremony. Battle Ground High School’s Ashton Hemming and Mallory Meyer took how awards for their skills at saxophone and trombone respectively. Prairie High School student Isaac Moroshan was recognized for his work on the trumpet. Sora Tolley, Jake Grevstad and Jayden Corey of Chief Umtuch Middle School were also recognized for their solos on alto saxophone, trombone and drums.
