Mallard Landing resident turns 101

One Mallard Landing resident hit a rare milestone earlier this month as Dollie Beers turned 101 Nov. 5.

Residents and friends gathered at the facility the following day to throw a party. Beers was presented with a cake with blue accents — her favorite color, according to Mallard Landing staff.

Beers was born in Ridgefield and graduated from Ridgefield High School, eventually becoming a teacher in La Center and Battle Ground schools.

Among those in attendance were members of the Bethel Lutheran Sharehouse Quilters, a group she had taken part in over the years. Aside from quilting, reading was another of her lifelong passions, with Nora Roberts being her favorite author.

Although residents turning 100 does happen occasionally, having a supercentenarian at Mallard Landing was rare, Andrea Pineda, director of sales and marketing, said.
