Area high school equestrian teams compete at state meet

High school equestrian teams from the North Clark County area competed in the 2013 WAHSET State Meet May 16-19, at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake. The teams did well in numerous individual and team events.

The Hockinson High School Equestrian Team was named the WAHSET State Team High Point winner in the medium team category. Several individual participants earned gold medals and others were awarded scholarships.

Here are the state meet results for the six area high school teams, both for team and individual events:

Battle Ground (District 4)                                                         Barrels: Emily Bozarth, 30th place; two-man birangle: Marisa Hermance and Natalie Bessette, 22nd place; steer daubing: Bozarth, 11th place; figure 8: Bozarth, 25th place; pole bending: Bozarth, 20th place; team sorting: Hermance and Bessette, 19th place; high point individual timed: Bozarth, 40th place.

Marisa Hermance received the WAHSET State Scholarship for District 4.

Prairie (District 4)

Break-away roping: Casey Kampe, gold (first out of 15 riders); hunt seat over fences: Kylie Vroman, gold (first out of 20 riders) and Kendall Pedigo, bronze (third out of 20 riders); dressage: Pedigo, silver (second out of 21 riders); drill: Alex Barber, Pedigo, Kolton Dehaan, Kiauna Johnson, Stephanie Ivarsen, Emily Giffoni, Kampe, Lacey Ailshie and Lonni Knaisch, silver (second out of 11 teams); hunt seat: Vroman, bronze (third out of 23 riders) and Barber, fourth place; working rancher: Pedigo, sixth place and Barber, 10th place; showmanship: Barber, sixth place; steer daubing: Ailshie, ninth place; stock seat: Paige Rinta, 10th place; reining: Pedigo, 10th place; keyhole: Barber, 11th place; in-hand trail: Bianca Lujan, 13th place; working pairs: Rinta and Barber, 14th place; trail: Rinta, 16th place; barrels: Ailshie, 31st place.

High point individual performance: Pedigo, fourth place, Vroman, ninth place, Barber, 11th place, Rinta, 64th place, Lujan, 86th place; high point individual timed: Kampe, 14th place, Ailshie, 40th place, Barber, 53rd place.

Alex Barber was the high point individual versatility reserve champion.

Ridgefield (District 4)

Working fours drill: Courtney Erickson, McKenzie Derheim, Brianna LaRoy and Brooke Killinger, gold (first out of 18 teams); saddle seat: Erickson, gold (first out of 17 riders) and Killinger, 10th place; working pairs: Cheyenne Coleman and Amy McDonald, fifth place; in-hand obstacle relay: Coleman, Erickson, LaRoy and McDonald, 20th place; stock seat: McDonald, 21st place; hunt seat: McDonald, 15th place; driving: Killinger, seventh place; reining: McDonald, seventh place.



High point individual performance: Erickson, 28th place, Killinger, 37th place, McDonald, 45th place.

Amy McDonald also was a State WAHSET Scholarship recipient and Courtney Erickson was a District WAHSET Scholarship recipient.

Hockinson (District 3)

Nadine Miller and Megann Phillips were each awarded a scholarship from WAHSET District 3.

La Center (District 2)

Woodland (District 6)
