Green Gala, deadline for recycled arts vendors next month

Posted

Clark County is gearing up for some “green” events in the coming months as an annual gala and the deadline for vendors at an annual arts festival are set for next month.

Feb. 22 will mark the annual Green Gala at the Kiggins Theater in downtown Vancouver, which will feature the second year of the Clark County Green Awards, according to information from Clark Green Neighbors, a local environmental advocacy program.

This year five awards will be given, for green businesses of the year in small and large categories, the Green Apple award for school district employees, the Green Neighbor award for an exemplary Clark County citizen and a Master Composter Recycler Superstar award for a certified master composter/recycler in the county.

Apart from the awards, this year will feature a keynote speaker from Waste Not Food Taxi, an organization that transports leftover edible food that would ordinarily be thrown out to food aid organizations across the Portland metropolis.

Next month will also have would-be vendors for the upcoming Clark County Recycled Arts Festival as Feb. 15 is the deadline for priority consideration for the event scheduled to be hosted in Esther Short Park June 23-24. Each year the event brings dozens of vendors as well as entertainers to the park to celebrate sustainable living through reuse.

Those interested in becoming a vendor can find out more information at recycledartsfestival.com/be-a-vendor, as well as by email at info@recycledartsfesti

val.com or by phone at 360-397-2121 ext. 4352.

Art must be composed from at least 75 percent recycled material. Registration provides the space, though artist vendors need to provide their own tent/canopy, chairs, tables, etc. There is limited access to electricity available for business purposes only, and security will be in the park Friday and Saturday nights.
