A Battle Ground middle school history teacher and a CAM Academy senior were recently honored on a state and local level for their work studying the American Revolution.

The Ft. Vancouver Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution selected Elizabeth Doughty, a history teacher at Chief Umtuch Middle School, as the winner of its 2019 Dr. Tom and Betty Lawrence American History Teacher Award.

“The award recognizes educators who distinguish themselves in teaching the history of the American Revolution,” a news release from the Sons reads.

The Sons selected Brooklyn Mueller, a senior at the CAM Academy, as their local winner for the 2019 George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Award. Brooklyn is the daughter of Steve and Tawnya Mueller of Battle Ground. Brooklyn’s award is based on an essay about the role spies played during the American Revolution.

Mrs. Doughty and Brooklyn Mueller are also up for national awards which will be announced sometime this spring.
