9-year-old Battle Ground boy honored for saving grandma

Battle Ground boy Ethan Clarke was awarded the title of Honorary First Responder from Police Chief Bob Richardson last week.

Ethan acted heroically following a basketball practice on Feb. 14 when his grandmother, Cheri, mistakenly shifted her car into reverse instead of park. As Cheri got out of the car, the car lurched backward, caught her foot and began to drag her. Ethan thought quick and jumped into the driver’s seat of the car, slammed on the brakes and shifted the car into park. Onlookers called 911 as Ethan began to take care of Cheri, who, thanks to Ethan’s quick thinking, suffered only minor injuries.

“This is a reminder to all of us that no matter our size or our age, we can be called upon in a moments notice to perform heroic actions,” Chief Richardson said in a news release.
