Community Events

WELCOME HOME VIETNAM Vets Car and Bike Show and 50th anniversary commemoration ceremony will be Sat., July 25, car and bike show from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., commemoration from 1:30-3 p.m., at 1015 NE 78th St., Vancouver. Organized by Purekraze Events for Veterans, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Free for all spectators. To enter a car, cost is $15, $10 to enter a motorcycle. MOTION COMMOTION, a free summer program for youth, grades K-8, will be Thu., July 23, 11 a.m.-noon, at Florence Robison Park, 1901 NW 9th St., Battle Ground. Join OMSI staff for an hour of fun-filled science experiments as you participate in Sir Isaac Newton’s 300-year-old experiments by using ordinary objects to demonstrate the physics at work in everyday life. IMAGINEERING: JITTERBUGS, an OMSI science adventure event at the Battle Ground Community Center, will be Thu., July 23, 3-4 p.m., 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground. For children in grades 4-12. With just a motor, a battery, a marker and a handful of craft supplies, students are challenged to design and build a scribbling robot that can doodle all on its own. Cost is $5 per person. CAMAS DAYS ANNUAL Steak Feed will be Sat., July 25, 6-8 p.m., at Grove Field in Camas. BBQ your own steak (chicken also available). Education

JUNIOR CHEFS II: In this class, you will cook, bake, and eat tasty meals with Chef Susan to share with family and friends. Students will work more independently with groups using basic cooking and kitchen skills in this hands-on class following more complicated recipes, planning menus, creating their own recipes, and exploring a variety of cultures and dishes, as well as practicing good table manners and safe food handling. PRESCHOOL CAMP: “Exploring the Five Senses” Tigerland Summer Camp (ages 3 -6). Camp is Aug. 3-6, at Captain Strong, 9 a.m.-noon, cost is $69. Tigerland Summer Camp is designed with emphasis on fun and adventure. Participants will learn through touching, smelling, hearing, seeing, and even tasting while exploring what the five senses are and how we use them to discover our world. A3 SUMMER ACADEMY: BG Community Education, Be Kidz Camps (former co-owner of One Team Kids), and the BGPS Learning Support program have joined forces to provide a summer experience that will engage kids in grades K-4 in Action, Adventure and Academics. This all-day experience that melds learning with organized physical activity, life lessons, creative arts, health & fitness and more. Three weeks left to choose from, Mon.-Fri., 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., at River Homelink, July 27–Aug. 14, $115 per week. Early drop off and late pick up available for additional fee. ALL DAY PERFORMING ARTS & Dance Camp: Ages 9-16, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at the Lewisville Gym. Students will work on theater and tap dancing from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. where they will work on learning a couple of theater scenes and learn tap dances to popular musicals, and jazz dance and music, 1-5 p.m. where they will learn jazz dance warm-ups, steps and movements across the floor and then use them to create dances to music from their favorite musicals. SUMMER DANCE CLASS: Aug. 4-27, meeting on Tuesday and Thursday at Battle Ground High School, $60. Jr. Hip Hop/Jazz Dance Basics (Ages 3-5), 10-10:45 a.m. Hip Hop/Jazz Dance Basics (Ages 6-10), 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Dancers will learn mostly hip hop and some jazz steps to fun and upbeat music. Come learn to leap, turn and shine. This class is not only fun but will improve posture, strength and flexibility in a positive and self-esteem building atmosphere. SATISFY YOUR SENSES: FVRL Foundation fundraiser will be going on Fri.-Sun., July 24-26, at Latte Da Coffee House and Wine Bar, 205 E. 39th St., Vancouver. Opening Art Show and Reception will be Friday, 5-8 p.m., Art Show and Sale will be Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and will continue 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. This event is free and open to the public.
