Education

MASTER FOOD PRESERVER CLASS will be Fri., April 10, 10 a.m., at Heritage Farm, 1919 NE 78th St., Vancouver. If you enjoy volunteering, like helping others, want to learn more about food preservation/food safety and are willing to share your knowledge with the community then the Master Food Preserver Program may be the right fit for you. Master Food Preservers volunteer throughout the county providing information about food preservation and food safety. Every volunteer is trained (classroom/hands-on) and certified so that they may work as a MFP team member with the WSU Clark County Extension office. The 7-week class meets Fridays, 8:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m., April 17 through June 5. Orientations are April 10, 10-11:30 a.m. Cost is $225. Vicki Ivy, (360) 397-6060, ext. 5704.

FIRST AID & CPR CERTIFICATION: The goal of this training is to help students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to manage a medical emergency until more advanced help is available. This course will cover adult/child/infant CPR, AED, and Basic Emergency First Aid, such as choking, control of bleeding and managing shock. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certification card that is valid for two years. Class is April 16, 6-9 p.m., at Lewisville, cost is $49, ask about group discount rates. Reunions

BATTLE GROUND HIGH School Class of 2005 10-year reunion will be two different events Sat., July 25, 7 p.m., at Mill Creek Pub, 1710 SW 9th Ave., Battle Ground. This evening is adult only, cost per ticket depends on timeframes. Then Family Day will be Sun., July 26, 1 p.m., at Lewisville Park. This one is free, but attendees should still RSVP. Sports & Recreation

COMMUNITY MARTIAL ARTS, first through 12th graders: Pung Mul Kwan is an offshoot of an ancient Korean Martial Art. It combines linear and circular movements, joint locks, throws, falling techniques and grappling. Your child will learn this and discipline, patience and control. Class starts April 2 at Captain Strong Primary and meets Tuesday/Thursday, 3:45-4:45 p.m., cost is $40, seven sessions. OLYMPIC TAEKWONDO: Ages 5 and up, learn the exciting sport of Olympic Taekwondo from three-time National and World Champion Darrell Kirkpatrick, certified world taekwondo federation sixth degree Black Belt Master Instructor. Learn self defense skills and dynamic kicks while improving flexibility, stamina, coordination and motor skills. Self discipline and quality character traits are emphasized towards earning black belt. Session starts April 14 at Laurin Middle School, cost is $67, 12 sessions, can either attend 4:30 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. class. BEGINNER YOGA CLASS: Welcome to Yoga Foundations-Beginner. This class is designed for true beginners and will focus on proper alignment and connecting breath to movement. Develop skills and knowledge about your own body to support a healthy life. Benefits of yoga include stress reduction, increased muscle tone, increased flexibility, improved strength and endurance, and fuller, easier breathing.
