John Koski’s journey to Battle Ground started in Oslo, Norway and when it ended, he wasn’t alone.

The 27-year-old Koski settled into his new role on the team at Battle Ground’s Rose Family Dental In July. He joins Bob Rose and son Karl Rose on the Rose Family Dental staff.

“They are wonderful mentors for me,’’ said Koski, who promised his contribution to the team would be one of “youth, energy and a great skillset with excellent education from OHSU.’’

The leg from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland was perhaps the shortest leg on Koski’s road to Battle Ground. He was born in Norway, the native country of his mother. Koski’s father was from Iowa and the family later settled in South Dakota.

As Koski was matriculating through elementary and middle school, little did he know, he was interacting with his future wife, Kalissa. However, Kalissa and her family left South Dakota prior to her freshman year of high school and moved to Yacolt, so she wasn’t a member of Koski’s 2005 graduating class of 44 students at Hamlin High School.

Kalissa did return to South Dakota for a visit during those high school years and in 2007, she and the future doctor were married. They now have young children – Jaxen, Mace and Jesslyn – and the family resides in Battle Ground.

Koski graduated from South Dakota State University in 2009 and then earned his DMD from OHSU in 2013. He worked in private practice for one year in South Dakota before joining Rose Family Dental.

“We provide excellent quality and give the patients plenty of time,’’ said Koski of Rose Family Dental. “It’s quality dentistry and a very welcoming staff that’s been there a long time. I’m the new one there, everyone else has been there.’’

Koski appreciates all aspects of general dentistry; including fillings, crowns and bridges, extractions and pediatric dentistry.

“Bring the whole family,’’ said Koski, referring to Rose Family Dental’s clientele. “It’s anybody 3-4 years old all the way up. We have a very friendly staff with lots of experience and we are very open to different options.’’

Koski said his hobbies include spending time with family, ice hockey, hunting and biking.

“I really enjoy mountain biking out here,’’ he said. “That’s my new thing.’’
