Edison Eyecare expands into Woodland

Those looking for eye care in Woodland have an option with a face familiar to those in Clark County as Hockinson High School graduate Crystal Edison's practice has expanded into the city.

Edison, an optometric physician who runs Edison Eyecare, expanded north into Woodland in February, starting with once-a-week trips at a location within the Woodland Walmart. Now hours have expanded to a full day and two mornings in Woodland, and two full days and two afternoons in Battle Ground at her first location, also located in Walmart.

The location in the Woodland Walmart made sense for a few reasons, Edison said. For one, there hadn’t been an optometric physician at the location for more than a year, so the need was there.

On top of that, the familiarity of working with a similar host in Walmart also provided a benefit.

One of the biggest differences between Battle Ground and Woodland was in building clientele. As her location in Battle Ground was relatively new when she moved in, there were already people who had visited the Woodland location prior to them not having a doctor.

With somewhat of an establishment already there going in, building up a client base wasn’t an issue, making the expansion easier.

About a year ago Edison Eye Care was a one-woman operation, though now she has taken on support staff to help with the business.

“For the time, the two locations are great for me. I’m happy with them,” Edison said.

The autonomy that working with Walmart has given Edison allows her to focus on the patient, being able to set her schedule for when patients need her and with enough time to really get at the issues.

“I want to make sure every patient feels like they have the right amount of time with me to get what they need,” Edison said.

Keeping patients healthy goes farther than looking at eyes for Edison, as she touted a focus on proper nutrition as one of her strengths. An assortment of vitamins and supplements were displayed behind the counter, ones Edison said are of the highest quality she can find.

“We just don’t get enough nutrition in the food that we eat now,” Edison said. “It’s bad for our health, and it’s also bad for our eyes.”
