Care for your landscape during winter

Many things can still be done around the garden and landscape, even during the chilly winter months. Keep working with plants and landscape with help from seminars at Tsugawa Nursery during the month of January.

Tsugawa Nursery is located at 410 E. Scott Ave., Woodland.

Here are some of the seminars coming up at Tsugawa in January:

Wintertime Bonsai Care, Sat., Jan. 18, 11 a.m.: Even Northwest bonsai enthusiasts get the blues sometimes, especially come winter. Never fear, the staff at Tsugawa will provide attendees with the knowledge to over-winter your living sculptures and help them to insure a healthy, happy bonsai when spring arrives and it’s time to emerge back into the sun.

This seminar is free and open to the public. Space is limited, register ahead online at www.tsugawanursery.com/events.htm or call (360) 225-8750.

Pruning Your Fruit Trees, Sat., Jan. 25, two times available, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.: Join others at Tsugawa Nursery as the staff advises on fruit tree pruning, teaching different techniques to control growth, remove dead or diseased wood or stimulate the formation of flowers and fruit buds. Don’t miss out on the nursery’s complimentary Dormant Spraying for Your Fruit Trees seminar at the same times. To get the most out of your fruit trees, plan to attend both Pruning and Dormant Spraying.

Celebrating 30-plus years, Tsugawa Nursery is a family-owned-and-operated business. The Tsugawa family began berry farming in Woodland in 1947. George and Mable Tsugawa were married in 1950 and raised six children. The Tsugawa family worked hard together to make their farm successful, initially growing strawberries. In January 1981, the Tsugawa family purchased a defunct nursery in Woodland. They opened Tsugawa Nursery in March 1981 with very little nursery stock, but plenty of vision for things to come. The Nursery has grown and become well established as one of the area’s best places to shop for garden and landscape plants and supplies.
