Activities, displays everywhere at Home & Garden Idea Fair

The 23rd annual Clark Public Utilities Home & Garden Idea Fair is set for Fri.-Sun., April 25-27, at the Clark County Event Center, 17402 NE Delfel Rd., Ridgefield. Event hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.

Here are a few additional details on some of the activities and displays that will be offered at the Home & Garden Idea Fair:

Energy Smart Home

The Home & Garden Idea Fair is a place to discover the latest trends in energy-efficient home building and remodeling products and services, and to learn more about not wasting energy in the home. The 2013 Energy Smart Home display, built by New Tradition Homes, featured the “latest and greatest” new technology in energy-efficient building materials and appliances for one’s home. This year’s display will include:

• Energy-efficient lighting

• Tank-less solar and hybrid water heating systems

• Air source heat pump system

• Photovoltaic solar generating system

• Energy Star appliances

• Residential plug-in hybrid car charging station with the Nissan Leaf provided by Alan Webb Auto Group with an opportunity to take a test drive

New Tradition Homes will showcase their New Generation of floor plans designed with innovation and livability in mind. Representatives from New Tradition Homes will be on hand to share 25 new home plans developed for the modern family’s lifestyle.

Attendees can visit with an Energy Counselor from Clark Public Utilities to learn how to outsmart energy waste. Visitors can also sign up for a free home energy audit to learn more about their personal energy consumption.

Children’s activities



Children who attend the Home & Garden Idea Fair with their families will have a variety of activities to choose from to keep themselves occupied. Here are some of the activities kids can look forward to:

• Power Zone feature

• Cheep Food (making a pine cone birdfeeder)

• Dinosaur Terrariums

• Edith House, hosted by Southwest Washington Fire Prevention Council

• Make-a-Button

• Make-a-Flower

Edith House is a custom-designed RV for children to learn the importance of home fire safety. There are also more activities for children at booths that offer environmental activities area.

Free shuttle bus service

Clark Public Utilities provides free shuttle bus service between the fair and C-TRAN’s Fisher’s Landing Transit Center on 164th Avenue and the 99th Street Transit Center at Stockford Village. The bus will be a clearly marked charter bus (not C-TRAN) and each stop will have signs for the Home & Garden Idea Fair boarding area.

The bus will depart Fisher’s Landing at 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Fri., April 25 and Sat., April 26. It will pick up passengers at 99th Street approximately 25 minutes later. The last bus will leave the fairgrounds at 6:15 p.m.

On Sun., April 27, the bus will leave Fisher’s Landing at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. and will pick up passengers at 99th Street approximately 25 minutes later. The last bus leaving the event on Sunday will be at 5:15 p.m.
