Dispose of old drugs
On Saturday, April 27 the Battle Ground Police station, 507 SW 1st St, Battle Ground, will serve as a drop-off site for a semi-annual Drug Take Back Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Unwanted medications in pill, liquid or inhaler form will be accepted. While sharps and syringes are not accepted at the Battle Ground location, they are accepted at the PeaceHealth Southwest Urgent Care and at Kaiser Permanente Cascade Park event sites.
‘You Can!’ Food Preservation Series
Clark and Cowlitz County Master Food Preservers will help people learn the basics of food preservation. Food preservation lets one eat well year-round by filling the pantry and freezer with food from the Pacific Northwest.
The classes will be held 1 – 3 p.m., Wednesdays, May 1 to June 19, at the 78th Street Heritage farm, 1919 NE 78th St., Vancouver. The cost is $20 per class or $100 for the full eight class series. Pre-registration is required: visit brownpapertick

Straw Bale Gardening
Master Gardener Vicki Williams will be teaching a class on what is needed for straw bale gardening and answer any questions.
The free class will be on April 30, at 6 p.m. in the Fair Exposition at the Cowlitz County Fairgrounds, 1900 7th Avenue, Longview.
Mothers Day plant sale
On Saturday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, May 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a Mothers Day plant sale at the 78th Street Heritage Farm, 1919 NE 78th Street, Vancouver. There will be a huge selection of plants, including perennials, annuals, vegetables, trees, shrubs, herbs, house plants, hanging baskets, and mixed flower pots. Purchases help support the WSU Master Gardener Program, horticulture education, and healthy food growing in Clark County.
Plant sale and Tomatopalooza
There will be dozens of varieties of healthy tomatoes and other plants available at this event. All proceeds from the sale help fund community outreach and workshops.
The event is planned for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 18 at the Master Gardener Foundation of Cowlitz County 1946 3rd Ave., Longview.
Chrysanthemum Society 74th Plant Sale
The Chrysanthemum Society will be holding its 74th Plant Sale of rooted cuttings, hardy varieties and exhibition specialties. There will be members available to answer any questions.
The event is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 5, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 11 at the 78th Street Heritage Farm, 1919 NE 78th Street, Vancouver.
How to grow fruits and vegetables in a small city lot
The Clark County Master Gardener Foundation will be hosting a class called “How I grow 40 fruit trees, raspberries, Marionberries, strawberries, blueberries, and grapes… and still have room for eight raised vegetable beds on my 60- by 100-foot city lot.”
The free class will take place on Tuesday, May 7, at 7 p.m. in The Gathering Place, 2500 NE 78th Street, Vancouver.
BGPS annual plant and greenhouse sales
Battle Ground Public Schools will be having its annual plant and greenhouse sale in early May. The money raised from the sales supports the district’s horticulture and FFA programs, and welding teams. There will be perennial bedding, flowering plants, vegetable starts, hanging baskets and more, all grown by students. All sales are cash only or check.

Prairie High School
• Wednesday, May 1, 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Prairie High School greenhouse, 11311 NE 119th St., Vancouver
CASEE
• Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the CASEE Center, 11104 N.E. 149th Street, Brush Prairie.
Battle Ground High School
• Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Battle Ground High School Greenhouses, 300 W Main St., Battle Ground.
Annual Ridgefield Garden Club Plant Sale
The Ridgefield Garden Club will be having its plant sale on Saturday, May 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Old Bus Barn, 304 Pioneer Street, Ridgefield.
