Area cats, dogs looking for forever homes

Posted

Numerous cats and dogs in the Clark County area are looking for their forever homes. Several organizations in the area have many different breeds of dogs and cats available for adoption. Here are a few pets that are available now.

Humane Society for Southwest Washington

Meet Amber: Amber is a 1 ½-year-old American pit bull terrier mix. She weighs 53 pounds and is energetic and friendly. She came to the adoption center as a stray and is now looking for her forever home. Amber would love an active family that gives her plenty of exercise and play time. Bring in any older children 12 and older to meet her, however, she can’t live with any young children. Ask an adoption counselor how to adopt Amber today.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $100-$250 depending on premium pricing.

Meet Benji: Benji is a 2-year-old shih tzu mix. He is a cheerful little fellow and weighs 13.4 pounds. Benji recently went to the groomers for a “makeover” and adored all the attention, and now looks like a million bucks. He rides nicely in a car and loves playing fetch with tennis balls. He walks well on a leash and also enjoys a good snuggle on a nice lap. Benji can be a bit wary of strangers and he likes to be left alone when he dines on his breakfast or dinner, so an adult-only home would be a good fit for him. Benji is not currently on the adoption floor, but those interested can ask a staff member how to meet him today.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $100-$250 depending on premium pricing.

Meet Alvin: Alvin is an 8-year-old black and white domestic short hair kitty. He came to the shelter as a stray and is now on the road to finding a new home. Alvin is a special boy who came in extremely scared and fearful of all the new things around him. It has taken some time, but he is slowly coming around and he seems to be ready to take the next big step in life. A quiet home without small children younger than the age of 6 would be best for him. If you do have any older children at home, bring them to say hello to Alvin. Alvin has really been coming out of his shell lately and he has turned into quite the lap cat. He comes by meowing for attention, purring and “making biscuits” like crazy before finding a comfy spot on your lap to fall asleep. Ask how to meet Alvin today.

The adoption fee for senior cats, 7 years and older, is usually $25.

Meet Belle: Belle is a 3-year-old lilac point Siamese kitty. She came to the adoption center because she wasn’t getting along with the young grandchildren at her previous home. She’s quite the world traveler, having been adopted as younger cat from New York City. Belle is a fancy girl ready to settle into a loving forever home. She is really unsure about other kitties, she may need to be the only cat in her new home. If you do have other cats, ask how to do a very slow and gradual introduction between two cats so they can hopefully learn to get along. Belle also needs a home without any children younger than 6 years old. Ask for a social with Belle today.

The adoption fee for adult cats, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $50 depending on premium pricing.

Adoption center hours are Tue.-Sun., noon-6 p.m.

Furry Friends

Meet Jovi: Jovi is an adult female tortoiseshell kitty. This beautiful young lady may be a little petite, but despite her size she carries herself like a queen. Jovi loves attention, and if you sit down she might just jump into your lap. She’s also a bit of a chatterbox and isn’t at all shy about letting you know when there’s something she wants. She has beauty and a great personality.

Meet Jack Frost: Jack Frost is an adult male Siamese and domestic short hair kitty. He is a beautiful sweet boy who loves every bit of attention he gets. He has a very healthy appetite and weighs in at about 19 pounds. He loves to play with toys on a string, as long as you don’t make him work too hard to reach them. Jack is genetically predisposed to developing crystals in his urine and even though he has had surgery to help prevent this, it is still very important that he be on a special food for the rest of his life.

The adoption fee for cats through Furry Friends is $80 for one or $100 for two. All cats and kittens adopted through Furry Friends are spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia and FIV, microchipped, vaccinated, are examined and treated for ear mites, worms and fleas, and cats 16 weeks (4 months) and older will also have a rabies shot.
