Pets in search of forever homes

Posted

A number of dogs and cats in Clark County are currently looking for someone to adopt them and provide them with a new forever home.

Those interested can visit one or all of several adoption organizations in the Clark County area. Here are a few pets currently available for adoption at a few local agencies:

Furry Friends

Meet Whiskers: Whiskers is a spayed female, domestic shorthair that will be 4 years old in June. She is described as very entertaining when she starts playing. Tossing toys, skittering around, and grabbing her little scratching post to scratch with her back legs, she is very fun to watch. She loves treats, fresh greens, and catnip, but she doesn’t like to be picked up. She enjoys sitting next to you, getting her ears scratched, and having her body petted, but the second someone tries to scoop her up she runs off. With time, the hope is this won’t be such an issue. She would do fine with one or two other cats.

Meet Sheena: Sheena is a spayed female, domestic longhair that is described as a quiet and independent girl who gets along with other cats by ignoring them. She loves treats so much, if you give her one she might sit up on her hind legs or start purring. When she’s in a good mood she’ll often let you pet her head, and if she decides to go all out she’ll rub against your leg. However, she can be grouchy and aloof, so you will need to respect her boundaries. This older girl mostly wants her own space to lay on a comfy bed for a nap. She is a bit lazy about grooming herself, so she will need some help in keeping up with this.

Meet Ross: Ross is a neutered male, domestic shorthair that will be 3 years old in May. He is described as an outgoing and occasionally chatty boy who is extremely friendly towards people. However, he is an alpha male, so he doesn’t get along with every cat. He loves having his body stroked, and scratching his chin is sure to elicit some purrs. Ross is rather playful, loves catnip and belly rubs, and very much enjoys spending time on people’s laps. He doesn’t usually mind being held, and will sometimes even hug your neck or climb onto your shoulders when you pick him up.

Meet Mau Mau: Mau Mau is a neutered male, domestic shorthair that turned 10 years old in February. Mau Mau has mellowed over the years he has been with Furry Friends, and he is watchful and aware and comes and goes as he pleases. He has a few favorite toys and loves catnip. You can usually find him relaxing in his favorite place, the lawn chair on our catio, enjoying the fresh air and watching the birds, squirrels and bugs. He would do best in a home with no other male cats.

These kitties are available from Furry Friends in Vancouver. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations. You can view more kitties available for adoption at www.furryfriendswa.org. Meet Aries: Is a 3-year-old Labrador Retriever female who weighs about 35 pounds. She is described as super friendly and loves to play. She can also be quite the snuggler but she loves her people so much that she does not like to share, so she should be the only pet in the household. She would like to meet any kids with whom she may be living.

Meet Chunk: Chunk is a male Golden Retriever. He is a happy boy looking for a place to call home. Chunk is pretty easy going but should not go to a home with chickens. He would like a fenced yard to help keep him safe.

Meet Dublin: Dublin is a 46-pound, 7-year-old female Chinese Shar Pei. She loves being around people, is housetrained and knows commands. She would like to meet any children over 10 and other dogs that she may be living with.

Adoption fees vary for cats and dogs depending on age, breed and other factors. All adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, microchip ID and national registration, select vaccinations, free veterinary exam with a local participating veterinarian, animal training information and 30 days of free pet insurance.

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is located at 1100 NE 192nd Ave., Vancouver. Adoption center hours are Tue.-Sun., noon-6 p.m. Contact the shelter at (360) 693-4746.

Second Chance Companions

Meet Louie: Louie is a Schipperke mix that is about 2 years old. He is housebroken, crate trained and has some obedience training. Louie really wants to please his owner and will happily snuggle with you in bed. He does get overly enthusiastic at times and pees just a little in his excitement. But the more secure he gets, the less it seems to happen. He is described as a very bright and funny little dog, who should probably be the only dog in the house, but cats are OK. He would do well with gentle teenagers, but not with small children. He loves to go for walks and is easy to manage.

Meet Samuel: Samuel is house trained, neutered, current on vaccinations and he prefers a home without cats. His previous family provided him room to run but they recently moved and their yard is very small so Samuel is not getting the exercise he needs so they want him to have a new home where he has room to run and stay fit. He is very healthy, has no signs of hip issues, kennels when instructed, does well with kids and other dogs but is known to chase cats. He is 9 years old and weighs about 85 pounds.

Meet Rosalee: Rosalee is 2 years old, weighs 25 pounds and prefers a home without children. She is quiet and would prefer a quiet home with adults who enjoy daily walks and a warm lap to call her own. Rosalee is described as well-mannered, crate and leash trained, and she gets along well with other dogs and cats. She walks well on a leash, loves car rides, and prefers to sleep with her mother and person but will go anywhere she is asked.
