Why I left the republican party

Posted

I used to be a staunch conservative, until two things happened:

— We attacked two countries that did not and could not do us any harm, killing hundreds of thousands of their people, as well as thousands of our own service members, and put the entire $6 trillion cost on the national debt.

— Newt Gingrich started (later followed by others) the new concept to oppose, block, fight, sabotage, and/or obstruct everything the “other side” did, regardless of whether it was perceived as good, bad or indifferent for the country.

Since then, all civility has gone out the window (yes, later on the other side as well), to the point where any candidate who dares to not 100 percent oppose the other side is called a RINO (Republican In Name Only).

I left the Republican party in disgust.

I was reasonably happy with Obama. My main complaint is that he did not stop the war.

And then, the current disaster. Let’s not talk about Hillary or the underhanded, slimy way she became the Democratic nominee.

But now there is Trump.

In an interview with Larry King 30 years ago, Trump sounds lucid, informed, speaks in complete sentences with a reasonable vocabulary, and responds properly and intelligently to questions.

Contrast that with any recent interview or speech. He cannot form complete sentences; his vocabulary comprises about 70 words (everything is “unbelievable”).

Often he does not answer the interviewer’s questions, instead talking incessantly about his election win.

Everything is about him. Whatever positive thing happens, he claims credit for it.

He lies incessantly (more than 3,000 documented, outright lies since he took office).

Every time he says “most people don’t know” or “don’t realize,” it means some fact that he just learned and did not know (or forgot) earlier.

“Nobody knew health care could be so complicated.” Oh, come on. Give me a break.

The point is, his mental faculties have deteriorated dramatically from former times. He can no longer think straight.

But he is in charge of this country.

That’s what scares me.
