Volunteers needed for holiday bike build to benefit area families

The public is invited to enjoy a community event featuring music, Santa and refreshments while helping to assemble 800 bikes that will go to eight community organizations providing holiday bicycles to families in need. Over 150 volunteers are needed for the event.

The event is part of the Scott Campbell Christmas Promise and is supported by Waste Connections as he was a long time employee. Campbell started the bike build 13 years ago with 100 bicycles, 20 volunteers and a wish that every child who asked Santa for a bike on Christmas morning could receive one, a release stated. The event has now become an annual tradition that brings the community together to give back to those in need by building the bicycles.

Campbell passed away six years ago, the release stated.

This year, the event is supported by the Ed and Dollie Lynch Foundation, Cowlitz Tribe Foundation, Main Event Restaurant, Beaches, NW Natural, Riverview Bank and the J. Scott Campbell Foundation.

The event will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Clark County Event Center Exhibit Hall A, 17402 NE Delfel Road in Ridgefield.
