The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra USA begins its 2023-24 season on Sept. 23 and 24 with guest soloist Antonio Pompa-Baldi performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.

Music Director and Conductor Maestro Salvador Brotons returns to the podium for his 33rd season, conducting Prokofiev’s much-loved Symphony No. 4 and Ravel’s immensely popular Bolero, in addition to the piano concerto. Soloist Pompa-Baldi is an award-winning concert pianist and a beloved professor of music at the Cleveland Institute of Music, a release states. This concert will mark the beginning of the VSO’s 45th season, following the inaugural Vancouver USA Arts & Music Festival, which the symphony created in partnership with the City of Vancouver.

“This is going to be an incredible season, and we are thrilled to bring Mr. Pompa-Baldi to Vancouver for the opening concert,” said Vancouver Symphony Orchestra CEO Igor Shakhman in the release. “We always strive for the highest caliber of classical music, and that includes our guest artists. Mr. Pompa-Baldi is a brilliant musician, and our audience will not want to miss this program.”

The symphony orchestra will continue the popularity of the live stream for all symphonic concerts. Season subscriptions are on sale now, and single ticket sales open Sept. 1.

The season opener, Ravel “Bolero” will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1300 N.W. 139th St. in Vancouver. Individual tickets become available Sept. 1 and can be purchased at vancouversympho ny.org.
