State disability committee seeking county resident comments

The Washington State Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment wants to hear from Clark County residents.

The committee invites those living with disabilities to take part in a hybrid in-person and virtual town hall from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 2, a release from the Washington State Employment Security Department stated. Chief concerns discussed will be accessible housing and transportation. services and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, school-to-work transitions for people with disabilities and all other issues affecting people with disabilities, their families and their advocates.

The Governor’s Committee on Disability Issues and Employment’s Community Outreach subcommittee travels to two communities every year, the release stated.

“GCDE members are interested in learning everything we can about the lives of people with disabilities in Clark County,” GCDE Chair Damiana Harper said in a release. “We want to hear the challenges, as well as the success stories. What is your community doing well and where does it need to improve?”

The committee will share the top few concerns from the county with local elected officials, service providers and leaders in the disability community to prioritize and strategize, the release stated.
