For The Reflector

Ridgefield Turkey Trot participants will work up an appetite on Thanksgiving morning during the seventh annual event for charity. The 5-kilometer walk/run will equally benefit the Ridgefield Public Schools Foundation and the Ridgefield Family Resource Center.

The 5k walk/run will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23 at Union Ridge Elementary School, 330 N. Fifth Ave. in downtown Ridgefield. The route will wind through Abrams Park, turn at Carty Lake and follow Lake River before returning to the finish line at Union Ridge Elementary.

The 5k is for fun and will not have a formal timer. Participants are welcome to walk or run during the event.

Prior to the Turkey Trot, a Drumstick Dash will take place at 8:45 a.m. The event is a short run, specifically meant for children 5 and under. Additional registration is not required to join.

To register for the Turkey Trot, visit the Ridgefield Public School Foundation website at ridgefieldpsf.org. Registration will be open until the event begins.

Adult registration costs $35, and Ridgefield School District employees and children are eligible for a discount.

Packet pickup for registered 5k participants will begin on Nov. 22nd from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Union Ridge Elementary School Gym. Participants may also collect their packet on the 23rd from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.

Some event T-shirts may be available for purchase on site.

The Ridgefield Public Schools Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports students’ academic and social needs. The program offers a number of grants and scholarships to students and staff in the Ridgefield school district.

The Ridgefield Family Resource Center provides support to local students, families and staff in need. The program offers a food pantry and personal hygiene items. RFRC also provides referrals to other resources, including health and crisis support.

According to the event page, Ridgefield Public Schools Foundation hopes the 5k will bring the community together in a meaningful way on Thanksgiving, giving participants the chance to slow down, reflect and feel gratitude while supporting local charities.
