Ridgefield to celebrate Independence Day during festival

Posted

Ridgefield will celebrate Independence Day with a slate full of activities on July 4 in its downtown.

Starting at 8 a.m., the fun run will kick off the festivities. Those interested in the 5K and 10K runs can sign up online at runridgefield.com/independence-run. The price increased after June 26 so the 5K costs $30 to participate in, while the 10K costs $40 to enter. For further race information, contact Angela Shields by phone at 360-904-3478 or by email at ashields110@

Starting at 10 a.m., the pet and kid pre-parade will take place at the corner of Pioneer Street and Third Avenue. People are encouraged to wear patriotic colors, especially if participating in the parades. Animals also must be kept on a leash at all times and owners need to be prepared to clean up after them.

The main event, the Fourth of July Parade, will begin at 11 a.m. Viewing opportunities are available from Fourth Avenue and Davidson Avenue down Third Avenue to Pioneer Street and Eighth Avenue.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Fourth of July festival will take place in downtown. It will feature food trucks and craft vendors in various locations. For $5, parents and guardians can purchase a wristband for their kids to enjoy the children’s activities.

After the parade, Overlook Park will host the Hi-Fidelity Entertainment Zone with street dancing and other live entertainment on stage. At 2 p.m., five categories, ages 6-15, can sign up for a pie eating contest at the souvenir booth at Overlook Park.
