Ridgefield School District honors December employee and students of the month

The Ridgefield School District honored its employee and students of the month on Dec. 12 at the Board of Directors meeting. One employee and seven students were recognized.

Employee of the Month

Jackie Bergeron, fourth-grade teacher at South Ridge Elementary School

According to a school district press release, Jackie Bergeron is an “exceptional teacher” who is “solution-focused, and is always looking to find ways to help her students achieve success.” Bergeron collaborated with her colleagues to write a Clime Time grant to create an outdoor learning space and nature trail for the school, which was awarded. Bergeron dedicated many hours to the trail and researched and incorporated native plants to ensure it is educational and sustainable.

 

Students of the Month

Millie Silliman, Pre-K at the Early Learning Center

According to the district press release, Millie Silliman stands out because she is a bright and inquisitive learner who shares her enthusiasm for others. “Her genuine joy in exploring the wonders of the world around her creates a vibrant atmosphere in the classroom, uplifting both peers and educators alike.” Silliman is also described as empathetic and kind and eager to help classmates adjust to their surroundings.

Ivan Verovkin, third grade at South Ridge Elementary School

Ivan Verovkin is praised for his hard-working and kind nature. According to the press release, his teacher describes him as always asking questions so he can understand new things and helps other students who are new to feel more comfortable in the school and class. He is also described as a “creative, artistic, out-of-the box thinker,” who “strives to add his own twist to art and to improve his work each day.”



Jasper Cole, first grade at Union Ridge Elementary School

Jasper Cole received commendations for his significant growth that has impressed his entire support team this year. He is described as a “great role model” for his classmates and always has a positive attitude. “Jasper is an extremely kind and friendly person who can be counted on to follow expectations and overcome challenges inside and outside of the classroom,” according to the press release.

Lyon Geissal, sixth grade at Sunset Ridge Intermediate School

Lyon Geissal is described as “a solid leader in the classroom” and eager to be inclusive and welcoming. “If Lyon has a peer with limited English to communicate with, that does not stop him from being a friendly advocate and supportive guide working to create a safe place.” He was also commended for his dedication to helping out by setting out the playground equipment each morning. His empathy earned him accolades in the press release.

Luisa Sunia, eighth grade at View Ridge Middle School

School staff recognized Luisa Sunia for her warm smile and positive demeanor, who is kind, respectful and upbeat. “All of her teachers agree that she is a shining example of dedication, hard work, and active participation in class,” according to the press release. Her STEM teacher, Mr. Hagensen said she not only excels in her coursework, but she also actively collaborates on projects and views challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.

Natalie Braunstein, 12th grade at Ridgefield High School

According to the press release, Natalie Braunstein is known as a “ dependable leader who is always willing to support and encourage others …” She is currently taking three advanced placement classes and is also a member of the high school bowling team. After graduation, she will attend Eastern Washington University and is considering future careers as an elementary librarian, high school English teacher or college creative writing professor.

Robert Fulfer, 12th grade at Wisdom Ridge Academy

In his studies, Robert Fulfer is a diligent student and is committed to keeping up with his online classwork, according to the press release. His teacher and advisor Mrs. Colantino said Robert “embodies integrity and character in every facet of his academic journey.” She also praised him for his writing skills, stating his English essays are delightful. “His writing reflects academic prowess and an innate ability to articulate thoughts with clarity and depth,” she said. After graduation, Robert is considering a career in either IT or cyber security.
