Ridgefield resident and longtime Lions Club member Dean Stenehjem received one of the “Lions of the Year” awards at the recent regional convention in Longview.

“This is a great honor and I’m humbled to be recognized like this,” Stenehjem said. “Lions is the type of organization that reflects my personal values. The organization lives out its motto: ‘We Serve.’ ”

Stenehjem has volunteered with the Lions Club for 41 years and has been a Ridgefield Lion since 1994. He served as president of Ridgefield Lions for five years and also served as president of Vancouver Lions. He has also held leadership posts within both clubs including board member, membership chair, acting secretary and program chair, a press release from Ridgefield Lions Club stated.

Stenehjem is known for his advocacy of sight-impaired students, having spent 27 years as superintendent of the Washington State School for The Blind in Vancouver, the press release stated.
